I purchased a fast fid and would like to practice before breaking my rope on the trail. What do you recommend I use for practice?
Would a synthetic rope from the hardware store suffice? I assume it would need to have the core removed or not have one to begin with. Otherwise, it would be great just to have a short length of an old (retired) winch rope to use for practice. Is there a source you recommend for recycled synthetic winch rope? thank you for any suggestions!

Hi Leslie,
Absolutely! You can also try your local rigging supplier and see if you can source a few feet of 12 strand Dyneema or even a boat supply or marine dealer.

Hi John,
Yes. In fact, a long bury splice demonstrated in our Fast Fid video is usually stronger than the splice most winch ropes come with.
Give us a call and we can explain more over the phone. 208-639-1674
Thanks!

I have a warn pro vantage 4500 S on a UTV which is currently being used on a snow plow system. The cable is 7/32″ synthetic and it broke yesterday. Tried to field repair it but couldn’t get the line inserted back thru the middle. Will your fast fid splicing tool work with 7/32?

Factor 55 –
No, it will not. The Fast Fid was designed to work with rope diameters 3/8-1/2 inch. We have used the Fast Fid on some rope that is 5/16, but the diameter of our fid is too large to work with 1/4 inch or anything smaller. We are working on a smaller diameter fid that can be used with smaller diameter ropes but we do not have a release date or timeline of availability yet. Please check back with us soon! Thanks!
