Product Description
Factor 55 introduces a new line of Aluminum Hawse Fairleads. The 1.0 and 1.5 fairleads are CNC machined from 1 and 1.5 inch thick USA 6000 series aluminum bar. The industry standard fairlead thickness is .75 inches thick.
The thicker aluminum bar results in a larger outer fillet radius for the synthetic rope to slide against. This results in less stress on the rope fibers during high angular pulls, increasing the life of your synthetic rope. The 1.0 and 1.5 fairleads are the industry’s first Hawse fairleads compatible with larger ½ inch diameter rope tube thimbles.
The rope slot height opening is taller to allow the larger ½” tube thimbles to pass through. There is also a machined outer corner chamfer to reduce rope stress for those than plan on using the winch as a front suspension “suck down” device. These fairleads come in a durable MIL-A-8625F TYPE III gun metal gray hard anodized finish with a laser engraved logo.
What is the best surface finish for Hawse aluminum fairleads? Without a doubt it is a Type III hard anodized coating. Not cosmetic Type II anodized finishes, not powder coated, and not raw or polished aluminum. Why? Because a hard coating can resist the abrasion damage from a dirty/gritty synthetic winch rope rubbing across it. Especially during extreme side pulls where rope fiber stresses are extremely high. A Mil-A-8625 Type III hard anodized finish leaves a .002” thick Al2O3 ceramic coating that is in the top 5 hardest materials known to mankind (See chart under Corundum/Sapphire). Not too far away from diamond hardness actually. Another valuable material property from hard anodized coatings are the low coefficients of friction. Low friction = lower rope heat. Only drawback? Hard anodizing is not offered in typical bright and fancy anodized colors. All Factor 55 fairleads only come in Mil-A-8625 hard gray finishes. Not fancy, but it is the proper finish to extend the life of your synthetic rope.
Overall Dimension: 12.35″ x 3.25″
Standard 10″ Bolt Mount Spacing
For synthetic winch rope only.
*NOTE- Fairleads DO NOT come with mounting hardware.
*The reason for this is depending on your vehicle, bumper, and fairlead mounting thicknesses the shank length of the bolts may need to be longer or shorter to prevent the bolts from contacting the body of your winch. In most cases, the mounting bolts that are supplied by your winch manufacturer are adequate in strength and length. In some cases, longer bolts are required and 3/8″ Grade 5-Grade 8 bolts in 1.25-1.5″ shank length is a good starting point for fitment. 7/16″ bolts may also be used. Please contact us with any specific questions.

After a bit of research, I bought the 1.0 fairlead sight unseen for a brand new Zeon 10-S. Installed straight up using the Warn bolts. If I got the 1.5, I probably would have had to go to the local hardware store to get some longer bolts, assuming the 1.5 is thicker than the 1.0 in terms of the bolt channels. The fact that Factor 55 doesn’t include bolts makes sense considering there is no guarantees on the correct length for the given mounting application.
Anyway, the Factor 55 Hawse Fairlead 1.0 looks great. I like the hard anodized finish. Very high quality.

Beautiful fair lead. You greedy business decision to leave out any mounting hardware on a $100 product is disgusting. The average 4×4 enthusiast spends thousands on their vehicle. This is the last money you will see of mine. Greedy bastards.

The fairlead mounted perfectly using the ORIGINAL OEM HARDWARE on the Warn Zeon 10-S winch that came with my new Ford Bronco,

Read the info. They do not provide bolts due to many factors outside their control. I agree we spend thousands on our toys so a few dollars for the right size bolt should not be an issue.

Exceptional. Smooth on my line. But give colour option too on the Fairlead. At night….for reference….it can be hard to visually locate Fairlead for recovery purposes especially in mud….or if Jeep lights are on and you are outside of cab. Funky Fairlead colours would help visually referencing position of Fairlead and line at night especially with limited lighting.

Type III (hard) anodizing is either dark greenish grey or just dark grey. So you can either have tough as nails or bright colors. Looks like the Factor 55 designers chose tough as nails, which seems like the right call.

You should offer new bolts either with your fairlead or as option to buy separate. Finding out my bolts were to short during the installation was a huge bummer alone with an extra trip to find longer ones!!!
