Question
Tim Lindell –
Does the UltraHook work with OEM tow hooks? I am debating between this or the Flatlink E but I like the UltraHook for its versatility and hope that it would be useful with OEM tow hooks.

Hi Tim,
Depending on the type of OEM tow hook you come across they will work.
Rear “S” hooks or the front tow mounts on a Jeep will work perfectly. The trick you run into is the area the OEM tow point is located needs to have enough space to accept the UltraHook as it’s wider and longer than the FlatLink E.
Using an UltraHook with a soft shackle ends up being a winning combination because in most cases you will be able to get your line attached to the vehicle you are trying to assist and also not have to worry about damaging the finish on your UltraHook.

Thanks!

If the opening of the gated hook is meant to face upward in use, why is all the engraved text upside down in that orientation? Flip the engraving, guys. Come on.

Great question. Much like every product we make, we spend countless hours designing and looking over each and every detail. The reason the hook engraving is upside in the “hook up” orientation is 99.9% of the time the UltraHook will live against your fairlead. With the text in it’s current orientation, and with the hook resting against the fairlead surface, the UltraHook attachment pin hole is facing down. With the hole facing down mud, water, dirt, road salt from the winters etc cannot collect and pool up in the pin attachment hole. This is one more step to prevent any type of oxidation or corrosion from taking place, especially with our popular powder coated hi-vis color products.
If you notice the throat of the hook says “Hook Up” with an arrow pointing in the direction it should go. This is also why the finger grips are machined into the body allowing the user to orient the hook in their hand comfortably in the direction it should be attached. Facing upward.
Please let us know if you have any other questions or comments!
Thank you for your business!

I had a problem at first figuring the install but the Seller was GREAT and walked me through how to do it and the product works fantastic. I can’t say enough about how great the customer service was and being made to feel my issue was important. WARN winch owners need to be know that WARN has product issues to the cable end of thier cable line fitting into the 55 Ultra Hook. WARN has end pieces that are too large and do fall into 55 Ultra Hook for installation. Otherwise this is an incredible development in winching operations and I’m completely satisfied with my purchase and absolutely intend to show it off to my 4×4 Buddies.

I installed my new Warn Zeon 10k yesterday and the synthetic rope it shipped with a rope thimble that is to wide for my Ultrahook.(says made in USA). Actually doesn’t fit the Warn hook correct, with the flair out at the end of the thimble it sets cocked with the pin installed. Looks just like the one in you FAQ section video. Going to look around and contact Warn for another thimble before going the route of pounding the one i have flat enough to use. Cutting off the old one risks damage to the line itself and if you pound the OEM one down you would need to sand down the surface and paint it to avoid scratching up your new Ultrahook where it contacts. I’ll get it sorted but worth consideration when purchasing your winch and Ultrahook.

Yes, this is a problem WARN is aware of and has implemented a fix for the issue.

Are you saying the cable ends of Warn winches won’t fit into the Ultra Hook, or did you get it to work?

So right now I am waiting for my wife to get ready to go to the movies, (I am already ready of course). Hey so I am going to write a few reviews on recently purchased items from Factor 55. I am simply going to paste my Amazon review here because I am being lazy on my day off.. so here goes… This is my second Factor 55 Ultra Hook. One is on my Jeep , and this one will go on my Power Wagon. I have been using winches on multiple vehicles, (including UTVs) for many , many years. They are the best tools to have and it seems the hooks have always been cheapo and dangerous, even with beefed up winches. THESE Factor 55 hooks are BEEFY! They are also a gorgeous work of art. I Love the detent pin to lock the hook gate. I really love how they are designed to hold and use in the “Hook Up” orientation… good move by those guys. You can snug the hook up against the fairlead instead of putting a common side bend on the cable during stowage like we’ve all done for years! I do have a few large bow shackles were the 7/8″ pin won’t fit into the closed system hole, but then I do just use the hook throat in that case. No biggie. These are WORTH EVERY PENNY.

Love this product! We use the Ultrahook on our ULTRA4 car and we love the versatility of it. Any which point you come to you have the ability to quickly attach to it. Using any type of shackle or by just hooking up to a provided winch point. It’s pretty awesome! Provides a great approach angle, because of its ability to lay flat against the fairlead, it can also take the abuse from rocks and debris hitting it. Paired with the rope gaurd it is the best hook on the market for all around use and rope protection!

Question
sanatem2003 –
Does all the “gray” versions have the Military Specification Hard Anodizing (Mil-A-8625 F Type III) ?

Bud Heath –
Is this the best finish then out of all of them? How does the silver hood up?
(0) (0)
Factor 55 (verified owner) –
The MilSpec Hard Anodized GRAY finish is the strongest, the silver however will stay looking the nicest over time. You are less likely to see the scratches etc in the finish after it’s been used.
Thanks!

I’m not used to hearing that phrase, but for winch hooks that is a good thing.
